Quiet on the Radio #001

Free music I’ve been listening to this week:
- Animal Collective – My Girls
- The Deep Element – Lapses
- Robot Cousin – Nothing Fancy
How have I never sat and listened to Animal Collective before? Who can I blame for not sending them my way? What a delightful blend of melody and sound design. It captivates me.
Wendy, Shane and I went to see Wolverine last night. X-Men 3 set the bar so low; my expectations for this movie were pleasantly exceeded. The final big fight scene got pretty hilarious, that’s allowed. I missed the Stan Lee cameo – if there was one. Wikipedia says Jackman wants to do a Wolverine sequel set in Japan with samurai. Um. The world doesn’t need that.
I’ve learned that my squeamishness to cinema gore is rooted in the sound design. I don’t need to look away, I just need to plug my ears. That’s interesting.
I took a bus to Sumner for an afternoon, and had a lovely walk along beside the ocean.

I find walking along beside the Ocean very compelling. I am struck by being on the edge of something enormous. A different world. Vast and deep. Icy cold. Rhythmic and beautiful. Mysterious.
When I am lucky, I can hear Nature calling my name. That is the reward for getting out. Going somewhere beautiful. Shutting my iPod off. Seeking stillness. And waiting for Her to speak.
At risk of shattering such an image, I couldn’t stay there forever. The thumping wind was causing my ears to ache. I fell asleep on the bus ride home, snapping awake at my stop. That’s a useful super power.
Until we again.

you can blame me for the animal collective … should have passed that on some time ago … if you don’t have their album ‘Merriweather Post Pavillion’ well you know what to do.

Brandon, that’s very noble of you. And you’re right Merriweather is amazing.
Is it your first? I won’t blame anyone who’s first AC album is Merriweather (if such is the case for you.) I’ve tracked down Merriweather, Strawberry Jam and Campfire Songs. I’ll be looking for all nine albums, and three EPs. I can’t believe they’ve been around for nearly a decade. This is successful pop/electroacoustics.
Until we hear otherwise, I’m blaming Charters.
